It could be hormonal (birth control/ period related)/ food related/ allergies…
Try and scale back on the products you’re using and keep it simple, drink lots of water, wear less makeup, make sure your makeup brushes are cleaned after every use, change your pillow cases frequently, try not to touch your face too much etc.

Besides the obvious things I’m not sure what to suggest other than seeing a dermatologist if it’s really bad and you have the means.

Post halloween facial recovery.

I know its the day after Halloween so technically this is a little late but here is my product guide for crazy makeup removal.

Whether its stage makeup, prosthetics, fake blood etc, its important to remove it completely without stressing out your skin.

If you have various prosthetics or other things stuck to your face, remove those first, generally you can just pull them off but if you need a little extra lubrication the One Love Organics cleansing oil is incredible at breaking down cosmetic glues. Just apply a little to the area on a cotton pad and gently rub to remove glue. (also great to break down lash glue that gets stuck in your lashes)

If there isn’t any glue involved you can skip straight to this step. The Eve Lom cleanser is great to break down stage makeup while still being gentle. Just rub a glob all over your face in circular motions to emulsify all of your makeup, including over your eyes. Take a hot washcloth and hold it over your skin for a few seconds and begin to rub all the grime away. Repeat a few times rinsing the washcloth in between until its all gone.

I like to cleanse my skin twice when i’ve used a lot of makeup so the second time i use Easy Does It by One Love Organics. Its a great, every day cleanser (you can also use on hair and body) that leaves your skin squeaky clean.

I then like to tone with the Indie Lee CoQ-10 toner. CoQ-10 is a powerful antioxidant naturally found in your body, combined with hyaluronic acid and aloe vera to hydrate and balance the skin. It smells like spa cucumber water and feels so luxurious.

Now that my skin is perfectly clean and toned i like to finish with an oil. Not only are they deeply nourishing but they are easy to apply over possibly irritated skin.

The Indie Lee Squalane facial oil really boosts cell regeneration which is perfect to aide your skin in recovering over night.

I like to mix it with Tarte’s maracuja oil which is additionally very hydrating. Just mix a few drops of both together in my hands and press into the skin including the eye area.

The next morning i like to keep it simple, but still nourishing so i cleanse with Easy Does It and follow up with Weleda Cold Cream.

You know you’ve found your soul mate when he cuts you off from using your ExfoliKate too often.
I’d read online that Kate Somerville was a cruelty free brand but hadn’t had the opportunity to try her skin care (besides one spot treatment, i believe), so when Sephora had this as a 100pt miniature and i was looking for a new exfoliator for winter; i had to try it!
What it is:A dual-action exfoliation method. What it is formulated to do:Kate Somerville ExfoliKate® Intensive Exfoliating Treatment is Kate’s top-selling product, and the next best thing to seeing Kate in the Clinic! Treat yourself to this at-home facial for fantastic, instant results. This signature formula works both physically and enzymatically to deliver safe, dramatic results in one application. It effectively combats acne and blackheads, reduces discoloration, and polishes skin for a smooth complexion. Welcome to healthy skin, a healthy glow, and a healthy you! What else you need to know:This expert formula harnesses the power of fruit enzymes to clarify skin by removing dead cells and eliminating bacteria. It is ideal for all skin types, except sensitive skin.Research results:According to Kate Somerville, a 25-person study revealed the following results after one use: - 72% reported significantly reduced appearance of skin roughness - 84% said their skin feels softer and smoother - 88% reported an improvement in the appearance of skin texture - 72% saw an improvement in their complexion - 72% said their skin feels supple
This stuff is a sort of spirulina-green and smells like Christmas or cloves. After you’ve massaged it in, it will begin to tingle a little which i found disconcerting at first but now i know what to expect i’m sure it won’t be too bad.
I used it over my face, neck and chest and, although i didn’t leave it on very long on my face, my skin was noticeably smoother and tighter-feeling without seeming dry. It had broken down any dry, patchy skin and really evened it out.
I’m gonna try it again in a day or two but so far i really like it.
She also has a gentle version, one specifically for acne and one for body! (find them here)

My oily/break out prone skin picks

If you have excessively oily, break-out prone skin that you just can’t get under control: these are my skin care picks for you.

A lot of skin care targeted towards oily skin often exacerbates the problem by overly drying your skin and making it overcompensate by producing MORE oil!

These products are gentle while still cleansing for oily skin.

Those with combination skin can often find that products might work for their dry areas but not their oily ones and vice versa.

As someone with combination/oily skin, these are my favorite balancing picks for indecisive faces!

Tarte pure maracuja oil... or Josie Maran argan oil? Which do you think is better for dry skin?
Anonymous

I’m basing this on my skin which is combination/oily that can, at times, get dry in extreme conditions.

Keeping that in mind along with the fact i haven’t tried the new light version of Josie Maran’s argan oil: here are my feelings…

The Tarte Maracuja Oil appears lighter than the original JM Argan Oil so i find it better suited to my skin for frequent use. I do use the JM Argan Oil on my skin in cases of extreme cold or wind/sun burn but i find it a little too thick for daily use.

The JM Argan Oil, however, is great as a multi-use product; i’ve used it on legs, rough elbows and even hair. The Maracuja Oil i’d only use on my face.

Essentially they are both great products but i’d say go for the Tarte Maracuja Oil if you want it for regular face use only but the Argan Oil if you have EXTREMELY dry skin or want it for use on the rest of your hair/body.

My dry skin picks

I made a big post about this but it looked ugly so i’m breaking it down into skin types.

If you have a hard time keeping your skin moisturized, live in a very dry climate or tend to react badly to products: these are for you.

Hey Rhian, I was wondering if you had any suggestions for face wash? I used to be an avid proactiv user, I did love it however it would leave my skin dry and the moisturizer had an element of bleach in it which didn't combine well with my stila waterproof brow color. My skin seems to be mostly oily and when I put on even the smallest amount of moisturizer I look very shiny.

I might not be the best person to ask about this because although i have oily skin, i actually don’t mind it.

To me, healthy, natural skin isn’t matte-looking; its glowing, soft and dewy.

I’ve found that skin care made for oily skin can often dry out my face too much and causes my skin to try and over compensate for the dryness by producing more oil.

I would recommend a really simple cleanser like Easy Does It from One Love Organics, i find it leaves my skin feeling really balanced and soft.

If your skin is truly oily and you want to try something else you could try a moisturizer with glycolic acid like Reviva’s daytime moisturizer. It balances out oily skin and gently exfoliates to break down any existing blemishes or dry patches. My skin feels really refined after using it but i wouldn’t advise using it every day at first.. try it every other day and you don’t need much at all.

^ i’m pretty sure dark angels is what screwed up my skin recently. I didn’t experience the grey film at all…

Hey Rhian! I absolutely love your reviews and all your other videos for that matter haha. I was wondering if you could recommend or review some eye creams? I'm looking for a good one but there are just so many out there! Thanks xo

I don’t see myself ever changing my eye cream from the Elizabeth Dehn for One Love Organics vitamin e eye balm.

Its gentle, natural and so moisturizing!

The skin under eyes can become very thin-feeling and fragile but this has really improved the condition of my eyes… i apply it to my under eyes, eyelids and even rub a little into my lashes and brows to condition them.

I had seborrheic dermatitis on my eyelids for the longest time and this is what cleared it up and kept them in good condition.

Skin care woes

I recently added a few new things into my skin care routine and one of the little buggers has made my skin react very strangely.

It started with small red blotchy patches around my t-zone and mouth/chin that, up close, look like tiny pin pricks. The following morning the little bumps have turned into the tiniest whiteheads that i can just sort of scratch off… this has been going on for a few days now. Other than the little bumps my skin is pretty clear and smooth.

I did wonder if it could be the glam glow mask drawing all the yuckies out but i never know if that actually happens or if its just something skin care companies tell you can happen.

Anyway, these are the only things i can think of that could be the cause.

Anyone else had a similar reaction?
